A lift for young engineers

UK based crane rental company Emsley Crane Hire provided a free contract lift this week to lift a Bloodhound supersonic car into the Scarborough Engineering exhibition for young engineers.

Now in its third year, the Scarborough Engineering Week is a three day exhibition which hopes to attract young people towards a career in manufacturing and engineering. Held at the Spa Grand Hall situated on the coast at Scarborough, the exhibition attracted over 1,500 people – 1,400 of which were school children. Some of the exhibitors included Fanuc, Moog, Festo, North Sea Winches, Firmac and Atlas Ward the makers of the London 2012 Olympics Orbit tower.

Emsley supplied a 55 tonne LTM1055-3.1 All Terrain crane to lift a replica of Richard Noble’s Bloodhound SSC car which is designed to go faster than the speed of sound. All work involved in the lift was provided free of charge in order to help the effort in what is one of the worst regions in the UK for unemployment.

The Bloodhound SSC is a jet and rocket powered car designed to go 1,000 mph. It is approximately 14 metres in length and weighs just over seven tonnes. The engines produce more than 135,000 HP which is six times more horsepower than all of the Formula 1 cars on a starting grid put together!
