Beware the boom overhang

A car’s dashboard camera has recorded an incident in Taiwan two weeks ago where a car became snagged/caught by a long rear boom overhang of a crawler crane on the back of a low loader.

Sadly we have been unable to find any photographs from outside the car which might show how long an overhang there was and how it latched onto the car.

What it does show is why most authorities prohibit long boom overhangs and insist on proper protection and warning when there is one.

Clearly the fault here is shared, the transport company should have removed a boom section or suspended a proper warning triangle from the boom tip and the car driver should have been more wary of getting too close.
