Liebherr to expand in Australia

Liebherr has filed plans for a $65 million expansion to its Australian headquarters facility in Para Hills, Adelaide, South Australia.

The operation is not only the headquarters for Liebherr Australia, but also includes a large remanufacturing operation for mining equipment. The company moved onto the 20 hectare (49 acres) site in 1981 and has expanded it regularly ever since. The company also has offices in Brisbane, Mackay, Mt Thorley-Hunter valley, Perth and Sydney.

The development will include a three-storey office block, workshops, a warehouse, a component plant and a distribution centre. It is expected to create over 100 new jobs in areas such as warehousing, distribution, mechanical and electrical trades, administrative and clerical.

Managing director Greg Graham said the company was looking to expand following strong sales of mining equipment. "We undertook a significant evaluation of options in other states and Salisbury came out as the best option as we looked into the future," he said.

"We believe we can source the people we need from within Adelaide, and our experience with the people who already work with us at Para Hills has always been positive."

If planning permission is granted work should start later this year and take around 18 months to complete.
