Dunlop upgrades crane tyre

Dunlop has increased the speed rating of its All Terrain crane tyre following customer demand.

The Dunlop 445/95R25 SP ER50 has been upgraded to a maximum permissible speed of 80 km/h dependent on loading.

The new version of the tyre has a load index and speed factor of 174F compared to the previous 177E – this increases the permissible speed factor from 70 to 80 km/h with a maximum load of 6,700 kg per tyre/13.4 tonnes per axle at the higher speed.

The tread on the new tyre retains the continuous zigzag central zone, which is said to improve the footprint, prevent vibration and result in better ride comfort. Large grooves give good traction and the wide footprint allows uniform load distribution for even wear.

The Dunlop ER50 All Terrain crane tyre

Stephan Renson, marketing manager of the Goodyear Dunlop OTR tyre business for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “The new version of the Dunlop SP ER50 is the direct result of us responding to our customers’ needs. Reliability and the ability to drive these cranes long distances at maximum speed are the crucial factors that operators require – this new tyre delivers both.”

Paul Coussens owner of Coussens of Bexhill which ran the first SP ER50 Dunlop tyres on a trial and test basis prior to launch, added: “These are the best tyres we have ever fitted on our cranes. The tyres have now covered 13,250 kilometres and are showing excellent even wear. Also there has been no signs of any heat build-up in the shoulder or bead areas, which is remarkable considering this particular machine regularly travels in excess of 130 miles (210km) without stopping to let the tyres cool down.”
