Mammoet takes first Liebherr LR 13000

The first new 3,000 tonne Liebherr LR 13000 crawler crane has been sold to international heavy lift and specialist transport company Mammoet Global.

The contract was signed at Intermat by Mammoet chief operating officer Herman Smit and Liebherr Ehingen managing director Christoph Kleiner.

The first contract for the LR 13000 will be the extension of a refinery in Whiting, Indiana - near Chicago at the beginning of September. The machine will be rigged with a 78 metre main boom and a 72 metre luffing jib using the derrick attachment.

Mammoet said it decided to order the 3,000 tonne capacity Liebherr “not only because it possesses enormous load capacity but also thanks to its very high flexibility” and aims to use the crane on a wide range of operations including power station and petrochemical work.

The Liebherr LR 13000


The LR13000 has the ability to travel under full load, has a wide range of boom systems from light to super-heavy and with the new P-boom or Power boom it is said to have a maximum lift capacity of around 3,750 tonnes. Maximum boom and jib combination is 246 metres, comprising a 120 metre main boom and 126 metre luffing jib, providing a maximum hook height of 240 metres.
