RT crane rolls

July 28, 2010 | Comments (0)

A Rough Terrain crane rolled over on its side yesterday in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, injuring the operator.

The certified operator was apparently driving the crane down a narrow make shift slope into the excavated construction area when the soft ground gave way on one side causing the crane to roll.

Rescuers work to extract the operator from the crane

The cab landed on protruding reinforcing bars which pierced the man’s side. He was trapped in his cab fro around two hours before being extracted by the emergency services and taken to hospital with a length of the rebar still protruding from his side.

The crane was working at the Kingdom Hall construction site and the man was reportedly one of a number of volunteers.

While the accident is serious the man was conscious and talking when he was loaded into the ambulance. Victoria police and WorkSafe B.C. are investigating.
